Expanding Double and Triple Brackets

Expand double brackets using the FOIL acronym.

Use this as a tool to help us expand triple brackets.

Be slow and careful! No mistakes is the most important part.

Expanding brackets involves multiplying all of the terms together. An acronym to help you is FOIL (First Outside Inside Last). After multiplying all the terms we collect the like terms and simplify your answer as much as possible. When expanding triple brackets you need to expand the first two as a double bracket in the method described above, before individually multiplying every term by both terms in the last bracket. As before we then simplify by collecting our like terms. Be really careful with your negative terms, take your time and be accurate!
