Module 1 📚

Simultaneous Equations

Here we will look at linear simultaneous equations. We will recognise this subject when we face a question that has two separate equations. The process here is to make one of our variables (x or y) the same number before adding or subtracting the equations from eachother.

Module 2 📚

Non linear simultaneous equations

Here we will be given two equations, however one of these will be nonlinear. The process here is to substitute from the linear equation into the nonlinear. Following this we will solve as a quadratic to find two separate answers.

Module 3 📚

Algebraic Proof

Next up we have algebraic proof. This is a vital part of maths - we need to not only prove this for specific numbers, but algebraically so that the result is true for every possible number. The important part here is getting set up correctly. We will talk you through the common ways to prove various different types of problem.

Module 4 📚

Direct Proportion

In this video we are looking at algebraic direct proportion. This is where as one variable increases, so does the other. All questions follow a similar format so once we are set up we follow our normal algebra rules.

Module 5 📚

Inverse Proportion

Inverse proportion is very similar to direct proportion, however instead of multiplying we are dividing this time. We need to be more careful with rearranging our equations when solving so take more time if necessary!

Module 6 📚

Adding Algebraic Fractions

When working with algebraic fractions we need to remember that the usual fraction rules apply. We find a common denominator which can usually be achieved by multiplying the denominators.

Module 7 📚

Simplifying Algebraic Fractions

We usually need to simply fractions after multiplying or dividing. We do this by cancelling common factors, so a lot of the time we need to factorise the top and bottom first.

Recap Worksheet

Let's test what you have learnt!

The following worksheet will revisit all of the skills you have practiced throughout this block. This is a good chance to see where your algebra is at and to get feedback on what may be worth recapping! Try and answer each question to the best of your ability, and if you need reminding you can watch the videos above. Good luck!
